Commercial projects are typically defined by value. Edwards Smith Construction is always searching for cost savings without compromising quality - this is also known as Value Engineering.  Value Engineering is typically defined as how to get the same item for the lowest price.

The dictionary's definition for Value Engineering (VE) is: a systematic method to improve the "value" of goods or products and services by using an examination of "function".  Value, as defined, is: the ratio of "function to cost".

The missing part of the equation that is commonly not considered is the "quantity and type of experience" of the individuals doing the examination.

So, to us, Value Engineering is defined as a combination of value, plus experience, which will develop the best economy for a particular function.  We see VE as a continuing process from the moment of design through the moment of implementation.
